Ting at foretage sig på Brandenburger Tor
Inspireret af Propylea på den athenske Akropolis og bygget mellem 1788 og 1791 som et symbol på fred er Brandenburger Tor, formentlig på verdensplan, meget bedre kendt som et symbol på Den Kolde Krig, da Berlinmuren opdelte Tyskland - og hele verdenpolitikken - i to modsatte verdener.
Oprindeligt en del af den gamle bymur tilhørte Brandenburger Tor, under det socialistiske styre, den østlige del af byen og DDR. Stående tæt ved den nye mur blev den omdannet til en stærkt bevogtet dødszone. Så da Berlinmuren faldt i 1989, og billeder af tusindvis af mennesker, der oversvømmede Brandenburger Tor og klatrede op på toppen af muren foran den, blev den igen et symbol. Denne gang for genvundet frihed og længe ventet genforening.
