Wine lovers, this trip into Tuscany from Florence is designed just for you. Youâll leave the city behind and head to the Chianti region, known around the world for its red wines. But you wonât just learn about them, youâll have the chance to sample some, too. Enzo, one of our expert local guides, says âChianti wine is known for its deep red colour and flavour profile that contains dried herbs, balsamic vinegar and red fruits. See if you can taste these traits when you sample them.â
Youâll be picked up from the meeting point in Florence and driven to Tuscany and the Chianti region â the views on this journey are seriously good. Your first stop is the Medieval village of Greve, where youâll look around its cute, cobbled streets. Then, youâll head to Montefioralle, which has been perfectly preserved since the 12th century. Chianti Classico, one of the most iconic Italian red wines, has a black rooster on its label â youâll hear the backstory for this during your time in Montefioralle.
From here, youâll make tracks to a family-run wine estate for lunch and a wine-tasting session. The cellars here have been around since Medieval times, and they use oak barrels to do a lot of their aging. Youâll learn all about this before sitting down to eat and drink. Food-wise, you can expect Italian classics prepped with ingredients grown on the property. Alongside this, youâll have three different Chiantis to sample. This region is also known for its olive oil, so you can try some of that while youâre here, too.
