Ting at foretage sig på Det Mauriske Slot
Det Mauriske Slot er en militær befæstning beliggende i kommunen Sintra. Det blev klassificeret Verdensarv af UNESCO i 1995.
Slottet blev etableret i det 9. århundrede af nordafrikanske maurere. Dets beliggenhed på en bjergtop med kig til Tejo-floden gjorde det til et ideelt strategisk sted at forsvare byen Sintra fra. Desværre det gik det i forfald efter den kristne erobring af Portugal.
Det blev erhvervet og restaureret som et middelalderruin, i tråd med periodens romantiske smag, af som Ferdinand 2.
Slottet har en uregelmæssig plan og er sammensat af et dobbelt bælte af vægge. På indersiden finder man en befæstet gårsplads, brystværn og forstærkninger, der udgøres af de fem befæstede tårne. Derinde er Kongetårnet et af de mest interessante kendetegn.
Fra toppen af slottet er det muligt at beundre et enestående landskab, der afslører byen Sintra i forgrunden.
