Ting at foretage sig på Montmartre
Kvarteret Montmartre, 130 meter over Paris på bakken af samme navn, plejede at være en landsby nord for Paris, før man tilknyttede byen i 1860 til Paris, og det blev et af de mest berømte kvarterer i hovedstaden. Dens vigtigste vartegn er Basilique du Sacré Cœur, bygget i 1873, som er berømt for dens romansk-byzantinske byggestil. Indefra byder basilikaen på en fantastisk udsigt til den største klokke i Frankrig, ”Savoyarde”, og indeholder også, udover andre kunstværker, den største mosaik i verden. I fortiden var Montmartre berømt for dens vindmøller. Ikke mindre end et dusin var der i 1786, og de plejede at blive brugt til at male hvede, gips og småsten. Vindmøllerne repræsenterede pariserne favoritattraktion; de ville gå op til Montmartre på de solrige søndage for at gå en tur, drikke vin lige efter høsten, spise og danse. Som kunstnerisk område par excellence har Montmartre altid været en inspiration for mange forfattere, komponister, forfattere, musikere og dansere. Blandt de mest kendte var Toulouse-Lautrec, Utrillo, Picasso, Renoir, Van Gogh, Dalida, Boris Vian, Jacques Prévert, Serge Gainsbourg.
