You'll delve into the legend of Archangel Michael who, according to lore, appeared atop the mausoleum, sheathing his sword to signal the end of the plague of 590. This event bestowed upon the castle its present name. As well as this, you'll have the chance to admire the tomb of the Roman emperor Hadrian and explore the Papal corridors within the fortress.

  • An Android (version 5.0 and up) or an iOS smartphone is required for the audio guide. It is not compatible with Windows Phones, iPhone 5/5C or older, iPod Touch 5th generation or older, iPad 4th generation or older, or iPad Mini 1st generation
  • You will need to climb a series of stairs to reach the panoramic terrace
