Ting at foretage sig på Laurenskerk
Laurenskerk er den eneste tilbageværende middelalderbygning i Rotterdam og er et vigtigt symbol for byen. Bygget i den sengotiske periode refererer bygningen til den tide, hvor Rotterdam stadig var omgivet af mure, og vandvejene var de mest betydningsfulde handelsruter.
Laurenskerk (eller Sint-Laurenskerk), også kendt som den Store Kirke (de Grote Kerk), blev bygget mellem 1449 og 1525. Den blev efterfølgende stærkt beskadiget under bombardementerne i 1940, og af denne grund besluttede folk i Rotterdam at genopbygge kirken i 1952.
Besøg Laurenskerk for at se korhegnet i kobber fra 1713, beundre monumentet for havets helte ’Kortenaar’, ’Van Brakel’ og ’Witte de With’ og dens bronzedøre skabt af den italienske designer Manzu.
